Strawberries

Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits in the world. And it’s no wonder, as they are so sweet, juicy, and delicious. They are an incredibly healthy addition to so many recipes and really tasty in salads, oatmeal, baked desserts, fresh salsas, and smoothies.

  • Strawberries are another amazing fruit loaded with antioxidants, all of which help to protect against inflammation in the body and nasty free radical damage to our cells.
  • Strawberries pack in a ton of Vitamin C (one cup gives you 150% of your daily recommended intake – the most of all fruits), which is great protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, eye disease, and prenatal health problems.
  • They help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that strawberries even regulate blood sugar when consumed at the same time with table sugar!
  • Regular consumption of strawberries leads to lower blood fat levels, which maintains healthy blood pressure and cholesterol in the body.

Vegukate Tips:

Buy organic strawberries if you can. They regularly are found near the top of the EWG’s “dirty dozen.”

Store strawberries in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. Do not wash strawberries until you’re ready to eat them, as they soak up water and grow mold faster.

Hull and freeze strawberries for up to six months for delicious jam, pie, and smoothies in the winter months.
